Derek Shavell, Editor in Chief
I’ve been a part of The Squall and the journalism class all four years that I have attended Atlantic. After starting to edit articles and work on layout during the second semester of my freshman year, I became Editor-in-Chief halfway through my sophomore year. I’ve always shown my dedication to the newspaper and I have been interested in writing since I was in elementary school. However, journalism didn’t grab my attention until freshman year when I realized that Atlantic offered the class and we could actually create a newspaper, which I find incredible.

When I graduate in May, I plan on majoring in sport management at college (still undecided).

I am proud student attending Atlantic Community High School. I enjoy reading romance novels and writing about literally anything. I am absolutely fascinated with stuffed animals, my favorite stuffed animal I have so far is a bunny. His name is Latty. I love listening to music and doing homework at the same time it helps me get it done quickly. I truly believe Atlantic High has a lot to offer and I appreciate all the great opportunities handed to me. All teachers should be smiled upon for the wonderful work they accomplish.

Adriana Cruz, Staff Writer
My name is Adriana Cruz, a senior in Atlantic Community High School. I first joined this school last year, which was a huge change considering that I lived in Puerto Rico previously. But, luckily, I managed to adapt easily and make friends. I am very happy to be graduating this year. My plans are to go to college and study Criminal Justice. Since I was little, I liked anything that had to do with crime.

Gerard Kassi, Staff Writer
I’m a staff writer for The Squall, and this is my first year in journalism class. I’m a senior here at Atlantic. Writing has always been a passion of mine, so when I came across a class that would allow me to do a lot of it, I automatically took it. Every time I am around the people who are as passionate for this project as I am, it only makes me enjoy my time more. When I graduate, I plan on becoming an English major or an architecture major, depending on how I’m feeling the day I’m choosing.

Hello! I’m Caden, a senior, and this is my first year writing for The Squall. Hoping to pursue a career in journalism, I am excited to gain experience from writing for the paper this year. In the fall of 2017, I hope to attend UCF or FGCU. I play lacrosse for Coach Finn’s Finest (in the mornings before breakfast on school days). I enjoy watching hockey, being a big Florida Panthers fan, and playing video games, especially Nintendo games.

I am looking forward to be able to contribute to the highly acclaimed school newspaper and see this class as a starting block for my hopeful journalist career. Most of my articles will likely be pertaining to sports, specifically South Florida sports teams. I hope you guys enjoy reading what I have to say.

Transferring in the middle of my junior year to Atlantic, was terrifying, but the release I find through music, both playing and listening to it, photography, and creative writing has made the rocky transition bearable. I’m an IB Photography student here at ACHS and my plans after high school hopefully include a spot in the Music Education program at Florida State University.
